Stable Isotopes in Materials and Environmental Research

Session Organizer:
R. Gregory Downing, National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA

The application and influence of stable isotopes in science, technology, and the environment is the topic of this session. Fredrick Soddy predicted isotopes only a hundred years ago (1913). When confirmed a few years later entire new fields of study became possible to broaden our knowledge of the world and enable new technologies. A few thousand isotopes exit, but only about 254 of these are stable. Presenters in this session are encouraged to discuss current research findings where stable (or nearly stable) isotopes have played a key role. Included topics are broadly encouraged including; environmental, atmospheric, biological, paleographic, medical, chemical, and technology materials and their properties.
